Like the vast majority of providers, SerpWatch Keyword Research Tool uses Google AdWords API to return data as Google’s Keyword Planner is the most reliable tool for SV metrics based on clickstream data.
Here’s how you can check your metrics in Google’s Keyword Planner:
- Log in to Google AdWords* and switch to expert mode:

*If you don’t have a Google AdWords account, follow the steps outlined in this guide to create one: https://support.google.com/google-ads/answer/6366720?hl=en
- Once you log into your AdWords account, click “Tools & Settings” (1) and select “Keyword Planner” (2):

- Click “Get search volume and forecasts”:

- Enter the keywords you want to check (1) or upload a CSV file with your keywords (2):

- Click “Get started”:

- Make sure you enter the location you are targeting since search volume data can differ greatly between countries and cities:

- You can also enter multiple city/country locations:

- Also, make sure you select the language and search engine you’re targeting as well as the date range for the data you want to check:

- You will see that AdWords returns SV as a range (e.g.100 – 1K searches per month).
- If the value you received in SerpWatch falls into this range, the data is correct.

Keep in mind that Google averages SV and does not show the exact number of searches. This means SV is an indicator of the approximate popularity of a keyword.
According to Google, “your search volume statistics are rounded and this means that when you get keyword ideas for multiple locations, the search volumes might not add up as you’d expect.”
