# What is Keyword Cannibalization?
Keyword cannibalization occurs when two or more pages are optimized for a keyword with the same or very similar search intent.
These pages will then compete in Google for ranking as the search engine struggles to understand which page is the more relevant one.
When you optimize multiple pages for the same search intent, you’re effectively watering down their authority, spreading thin the click-through rate (CTR), and undermining your SEO efforts.
# How to Set Up Cannibalization Detection in SerpWatch?
You can set up cannibalization detection notifications for all of your project’s keywords or for individual keywords.
# All Keywords
NOTE: When you enable project-level notifications, they will override the notifications you set up for individual keywords.
Here’s how to set up cannibalization detection on the project level:
- Log into the Project Dashboard and click: “ADD PROJECT” to set up cannibalization detection for a new project, or “Edit Project” to do the same for an existing project:

- Click “Next” until you reach the Notifications, Integration, and Automation modal:

- Click “ADVANCED NOTIFICATION SETTINGS:”

- Toggle to enable notifications for all the project’s keywords:

- Scroll to the bottom, check the Cannibalization Detection box and click “Done” to confirm:

You will now receive notifications whenever the app detects more than 1 organic result for the same keyword.
To set up notifications for Slack, email, and/or Zapier integration, refer to the Notifications guide.
If you want to receive notifications to your browser, check the Browser Push Notifications guide.
