# How Does SerpWatch Keyword Research Tool Work?
SerpWatch keyword tool uses the seed keyword you enter to generate a list of 100 related words and phrases.
Keyword suggestions can vary depending on the location of the user performing the search.
This is why SerpWatch lets you narrow down the results based on country location and language which is crucial if you want to target local keywords and rank higher in Google Maps.

However, it’s not enough to just find related keywords – after all, you can’t rank for all of them.
You also need to analyze important keyword metrics and evaluate them against your business goals so that you can decide which keywords are actually worth targeting.
SerpWatch keyword research tool provides 100 keywords per seed keyword with metrics to understand the commercial value (CPC), search volume, and keyword ranking difficulty.
# How to Use Keyword Research Tool?
To access the keyword research tool, go to the project Dashboard and click the key icon on the left-hand side toolbar:

Enter a seed keyword:

Select a country/language combination from the dropdown menu:

Click “Get Keywords”:

The tool will show you three important metrics for the seed keyword:
- CPC = The average cost of every click on a paid search result for the seed keyword (the value is expressed in USD and depends on the ad spending of all advertisers).
- Search volume = The average number of searches performed in a month for the seed keyword in a particular location.
- Keyword difficulty = The score shows how hard it would be to organically rank on the first page of SERPs for the seed keyword.

Below you will see the Interest Over Time graph – use it to check how the popularity of the seed keyword has changed over time for the location you specify.

When you scroll down, you will see the list of 100 words and phrases related to your seed keyword together with CPC, competition, and search volume for each.
Competition shows the amount of competition for one keyword compared to other keywords, i.e. its usage density relative to all other advertisers.
