Google Local Pack or Map Pack is a SERP feature that appears on top of the search results for keywords with local intent.
Keywords with local intent include near me searches (e.g. “plumber near me” or “supermarket nearby”) as well as those containing a specific geo-location (e.g. “best pizza New York”).
However, Google is pretty good at recognizing the local intent behind a query even when the query does not contain location-related words (e.g. searching for “plumber” will almost always trigger Map Pack).
Local Pack features a map along with a listing of the top three businesses most relevant to the user’s search intent and location.
Google sources this information from Google Business Profiles and shows results it finds to be most relevant to the user in terms of search intent and proximity to their location.
